FROST, Florence Maud Underwood

Florence Maud Underwood Frost was born at Bury St Edmund's, Suffolk on 17 August 1862 and baptised on 11 September 1862, daughter of Henry Frost (11 April 1807-7 April 1875), a builder, and his wife Harriet née Palmer (c1822-1907) of Eye, Suffolk, who married at St Mary's Church, Bury St Edmund's on 22 December 1846. In 1871, Florence was an 8-year-old scholar, living at 5 College Street, Bury St Edmund's with her parents, 62-year-old Henry and 48-year-old Harriet, with three siblings, Henry George 15, Frederick Philip 14 and Walter William 10, all born at Bury St Edmund's. Florence received some of her education in Paris being awarded her 'brevet simple' from 'Commission d'Instruction Primaire' in 1881. She exhibited at the Bury St Edmunds Fine Art Society in 1882, a pencil drawing 'Cabal'. In 1901, she was still at 5 College Street, living with her widowed mother but by 1939 was living 'on own means' at Chestnuts Tan Office, Long Melford, Suffolk. Florence Maud Underwood Frost died at Mill House, 16 Clarence Road, Malvern, Worcestershire on 20 December 1952, aged 90, and is recorded on a memorial in Bury St Edmund's cemetery, she was unmarried.
