PENFOLD, Joanne
Joanne P. Penfold was born at Stepney, London in 1959, daughter of Brian John Penfold (1934-7 March 2015) and his wife Joan Maureen née Lewis, who married at Stepney in 1958 and they lived at Saxmundham, Suffolk. Joanne was educated at Bishop Challoner Catholic Secondary School, Basingstoke and studied at the Central School of Arts and Crafts in Southampton Row, London. She married at Stepney in 1979, Terence J. Watts and has two children, and paints under the name of Joanne Penfold. In 2009 she moved from London to Framlingham, Suffolk where, being inspired by the beauty of the surrounding area, commenced painting. Joanne paints in oil, with a palette knife, the paint is applied with a thickness of texture to create an almost 3D effect to emphasise light and shade, endeavouring to reflect the changing moods of the sea in her artwork. Being drawn to local coastal areas, began her love of painting seascapes conveying the sea as an exhilarating force of nature, huge waves, rolling waves, through to calmer, gentle waves lapping the shore. She exhibits at the Carousel Gallery at 30 Bridge Street in Framlingham.
