SEDGWICK, Ellie
Eleanor L. Sedgwick was born at Brighton, Sussex in 1951. After graduating from the University of Sussex, Ellie, as she is known, has been involved for the last thirty years in teaching art, theatre arts and drama to both children and adults. Since ending her full-time teaching career as Head of Expressive Arts at Lothingland Middle School, Suffolk, Ellie has been able to devote more time to creating her own work as well as continuing to offer talks and workshops to a wide range of adult groups with many differing levels of experience and works as in-house designer for Waveney Theatre Company. Best known locally for her work on still life and Suffolk landscapes, featuring a strong emphasis on the qualities of the region’s light but, less well-known is her work on Chinese style painting and abstract art, both of which she sees as offering opportunities to explore space and colour. Ellie Sedgwick married in 1993, Robert William Silsby (born 1946) and they live and Elliie works at Westhall in rural Suffolk and she has been exhibiting for many years including at Buckenham Galleries, Southwold; Potter’s Wheel Gallery, Walberswick; The Cut Halesworth; Lowestoft Arts Centre and regularly at the 'Westhall Secret Postcard Auctions' including in 2013 'Tinker's Marsh, near Walberswick' and a pastel 'At Tinker's Marsh, Evening'.
