Rosalie Brill

As Ethel Rosie Clarke, she was born at Grantham, Lincolnshire on 19 April 1903, second daughter of Charles Henry Clarke (6 July 1874-1952), an engineer's fitter, and his wife Jane Charlotte née Blackburn (5 November 1874-1941), who married at Nottingham in 1901, who in 1925, were living at 27 St Catherine's Road, Grantham but by 1939 had moved to 5 Willoughby Avenue, Nottingham. As E. Rosie Clarke, she married at Fulham Registry Office on 12 October 1925, Reginald Charles Brill and, as Rosalie Brill, served as an artist's model for her husband. During 1927-1929, together with her husband, they spent two years at the British School at Rome. In 1939, she was living at 6b Palace Road, Kingston-upon-Thames, Surrey with her husband who was headmaster at the Kingston School of Art. In 1962 she and her husband took over as wardens at The Little Hall, Market Square, Lavenham, Suffolk which was a hostel for artists from Kingston School of Art where her husband had been principal. Rosalie exhibited at the Royal Academy also showing at the Phoenix Art Gallery, Lavenham. Ethel Rosie Brill died at Chilton Court Nursing Home, Great Cornard, Sudbury, Suffolk on 13 March 1992, they had no children.
