As Gillian P. Cook, she married, as his second wife, at Greenwich, London in 1982, author Kevin John William Crossley-Holland (born 7 February 1941), and Gillian paints under the name of Gillian Crossley-Holland. Gillian studied graphic design at Canterbury College of Art and awarded a B.A. (hons) degree and then worked for MacMillan Publishing in publicity and book design. Together with her young family she went to live in Minnesota, USA for seven years and while there studied printing and fine art at St Olaf College, Northfield, Minnesota. As an artist, she likes the edges that form on the surface of her pictures, the unexpected marks that happen between one plane and another which is one of the reasons that she likes working with oil pastels which are a versatile medium. A member of Artworks East, her work has been exhibited in America; Bridge Square Gallery and Northfield Arts Gallery, Northfield, MN and in the UK at Bircham Gallery, Holt; Broughton House, Cambridge; Fenny Lodge Gallery, Bletchley; Holkham Art Gallery, Norfolk; Stables Yard, Hertford; Walsham-le-Willows, Suffolk; Burnham Overy Staithe; Blackthorpe Barn, Rougham and Suffolk Open Studios from Church Farm Barn.
