BROWNE, Ellen Richenda
As Ellen Richenda Wilson, she was born at Islington, London in 1843, third daughter of Revd Daniel Wilson (1806-1886), vicar of Islington, and his wife Lucy née Spicer. In 1861, Ellen was an 18-year-old scholar, living at 9 Barnsbury Park, Islington with her parents, 55-year-old Daniel, born Oxford and 59-year-old Lucy, born Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire, and her three siblings, Emily 23, Mary 19 and Arthur 13, all born at Islington. Ellen married in 1866, Irish born, Revd Robert Browne (1834-28 August 1900), at that time curate of St Mary’s, Islington and from 1877 rector of St Clements Church, Ipswich, living at 37 Fonnereau Road, Ipswich. Ellen was a member of the Ipswich Fine Art Club 1885-1886 and as Mrs R. Browne, exhibited 1884-1885 from 46 Christchurch Street, Ipswich two watercolours, 'A Street in Rye' and 'Old Hospital, Ely'. By 1891, Robert was the 56-year-old vicar of Farnham, Surrey living at The Vicarage, Upper Hale, Farnham with his wife and three children, Lucy Muriel 22, Elizabeth Richenda 21 and Ambrose George Denis 15, all born in Kent. Her husband died in 1900 and in 1901 Ellen was a widow living at 19 Toronto Road, Exeter. Ellen Richenda Browne died at 'Cahildown', 4 Holford Road, Hampstead, London on 2 August 1916, aged 73.
