BROWN, Thomas Stirling
Thomas Stirling Brown was born at Port Glasgow, Renfrewshire on 28 July 1865, son of Thomas Brown and his wife Annie née Ritchie. In 1901, a 35-year-old, ‘living on own means’ at Granham’s Road, Great Shelford, Cambridgeshire, the home of his 34-year-old sister Margaret and her 37-year-old husband, William Arthur Douglas Rudge, a tutor & lecturer at Cambridge University. Brown painted mainly animals and exhibited from Woodbridge at the Ipswich Fine Art Club in 1906 two oil paintings 'Tucking the Pilchards' and 'In a Western Harbour' also exhibiting at the Royal Academy; the Birmingham Royal Society of Artists; Royal Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts; Walker Art Gallery; Royal Institute of Oil Painters and the Royal Scottish Academy 1902-1915, from Shelford, Cambridgeshire in 1902, Woodbridge, Suffolk in 1903, Drumchapel, Glasgow 1909 and Glasgow 1911. Thomas Stirling Brown died at 265 Greenhead Street, Glasgow on 4 September 1929.
