CRANE, Doris Martha Alice
Doris Martha Alice Crane was born at 29 St Luke's Road, Clapham, London on 20 February 1911, daughter of Sydney Charles Crane (21 February 1886-29 October 1962), a despatch foreman, and his wife Nancy Florence née Powell (27 March 1887-1970), who married at Wandsworth in 1910. Doris was educated at Belmont House School, Clapham and St George's College, Red Lion Square, London and studied art with William Everett Gray (1892-1957), who worked in wood and ivory. In 1939, Doris was a telephonist, living at 46 Solon Road, Lambeth, London with her parents. A member of the Deben Art Group and she exhibited at the Royal Society of Miniature Painters Sculptors and Gravers, where she became a member in 1958, also exhibiting at the Royal Academy, Royal Scottish Academy, and the Paris Salon. She lived at 6 Upperfield Drive, Old Felixstowe, Suffolk for many years. Doris Martha Alice Crane died at Ipswich on 16 March 1999, she was unmarried.
