BONGER, Hein

Heindrik Bonger, known as Hein, was born at Arnhem, Netherlands in 1952, son of Heindrik B. Bonger and his wife Catharina Margarettha ten Sijhoff. Hein is a self-taught sculptor, and married at Southwark, London in 1978, writer Julia K. E. Blackburn (born 1948), daughter of artist Rosalie Eugenie De Meric, and they had a son and a daughter, but they later divorced. Hein Bonger is best known for his sculpture and assemblages created in his Saxmundham workshop but his abstract works in oil are equally remarkable and he has exhibited at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition also showing at the Chappel Galleries, Essex from 1994 and Ernst & Young, Cambridge 1995. In 2000 he was living at Needham, Harleston, Norfolk but about 2005 moved to 22 High Street, Saxmundham, Suffolk.
