BRETT, Harold Frederick
Harold Frederick Brett was born at Ipswich on 19 April 1891, eldest child of Frederick Charles Brett (17 November 1865-1950), a printer’s compositor, and his wife Alice née Leathers (1866-17 February 1935), who married at Museum Street Chapel, Ipswich on 26 December 1887. In 1901, Harold was a 9-year-old, living at 3 Foxhall Villas, Foxhall Road, Ipswich with his parents, 35-year-old Frederick, born Stowmarket, Suffolk and 34-year-old Alice, born Diss, Norfolk with four of seven, siblings. By 1911, the family had moved to Cambridge Villa, Rushmere Road, Ipswich when young Harold was a student at Ipswich School of Art. At the commencement of the First World War he enlisted on 15 November 1914, at Esquimalt, British Columbia and served in the Canadian Medical Corps in France from 1915 and won the Military Medal. He exhibited two war drawings at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition. He married Annie Hamilton (born 1 January 1891) and had one son Gordon Hamilton (18 September 1925-18 February 1990). In 1939, a traveller for a canned goods supplier, living at 259 Ben Lane, Sheffield with his wife Annie and son Gordon Hamilton. Harold Frederick Brett died at the Mildred Duff Memorial Home, North Walsham, Norfolk on 29 October 1974.
