Francis Ward

Francis Ward, was born at Moradabad, Bengal, India on 27 August 1870, son of Col. Arthur Edward Ward (25 December 1846-16 June 1941) and his wife Elizabeth Georgina née Cautley (9 February 1844-21 December 1916), who married at Jubbulpore, Bengal, India on 19 September 1868. Surgeon-Lieut. Francis Ward married at St Helen's Church, Ipswich on 4 August 1898, Elizabeth Lilian Jefferies (27 April 1873-18 November 1955), daughter of Ipswich ironfounder John Robert Jefferies. In 1911, Francis was a medical practitioner, living at 20 Park Road, Ipswich with his 37 year old wife and 8 year old daughter Ethel, both born at Ipswich. About 1929 he retired to Wiston Mill, Nayland, Suffolk. A Fellow of the Zoological Society, also a landscape painter in watercolour and a member of Ipswich Fine Art Club 1910-1932 and exhibited from Wiston Mill, Nayland, Suffolk in 1931, four watercolours 'Farm Buildings, Trimley', 'On Barton Broad', 'Devil's Elbow, Dartmoor' and 'Gallipoli, 1915' and two in 1932 'Dartmoor' and 'Young Rudd' and was the author of 'Marvels of Fish Life' (1911). Francis Ward was of Wiston Mill, Nayland when he died at Queen's Hospital, Birmingham on 22 July 1933. In 1939 his widow, Elizabeth Lilian Ward, was still living at Wiston Mill, Nayland, Long Melford, Suffolk and where she died on 18 November 1955.
