ROBERTS, Susanna Maria

As Susanna Maria Roberts, she was born on 11 April and baptised at Haverhill St Mary, Suffolk on 15 April 1823, daughter of Revd Robert Roberts, vicar of St Mary's, and his wife Emily née Nottidge, who married at Wixoe, Suffolk on 26 October 1819. In 1851, a 27 year old, living at High Street, Haverhill, with her parents, 63 year old Robert and 56 year old Emily, with six siblings Robert Lynford Nottidge 29, Louisa Cecilia 26, Priscilla 23, Alicia Mary 20, William Caryl 18 and Josias Pepys 15, all born at Haverhill. As Miss S Roberts, she exhibited from Haverhill, two watercolours at the Royal Society of British Artists in 1851 'St David's Day' and 'Windsor Castle from the Forest'. She married at Haverhill in 1871, William le Mottee from Guernsey, Channel Islands who was vicar of the adjoining vicarage of Helion Bumpstead, Essex. In 1881, a 57 year old, living at The Vicarage, Helion Bumpstead with her 68 year old husband and two step-daughters, Clara 36 and Fanny 24, both born in Guernsey and they were still there in 1891. Her husband William died at Haverhill on 19 January 1896.
