RICKETTS, Ellen
As Ellen Coote, she was born at Southampton on 1 June 1885, daughter of Charles Coote (c1833-10 February 1913) and his wife Clarissa née Mills (1847-10 February 1939), who married at Bedford on 10 April 1884. In 1911, Ellen was a shorthand typist, living at 20 Burrell Road, Ipswich with her parents, 78 year old Charles, who was born at Long Melford, Suffolk and 63-year-old Clarissa, born at Lavenham, Suffolk, with a sibling sister Dorothy Sarah 20, like her sister born at Southampton and in 1921 Clarissa, a widow, and her daughter Dorothy were living at 256 Cauldwell Hall Road, Ipswich. Ellen married at Ipswich later in 1911, Arthur Charles Ricketts (9 August 1884-17 November 1968), a clerk in the grain business of R & W Paul of Ipswich and in 1921 they were living at 6 Murray Road, Ipswich with a 7-year-old son Charles Robert. Ellen was a landscape and flower painter in oil and watercolour who was a member of Ipswich Art Club 1932-1939 and exhibited from Rectory Cottage, Sproughton in 1932 two watercolours, 'Wild Man Inn, Sproughton' and 'Old Cottage, Sproughton' and in 1933 two oils 'Primroses', 'Kingcups' and an etching 'Kingfishers' and in 1935 three works 'Daffodils' and watercolours 'Garden Picture' and 'Old Lock-gates, Sproughton' showing in all, sixteen works including 'Fir Trees' (1936). In 1939 she was still living at Rectory Cottage, Sproughton, Ipswich with her husband now a grain importers & provender. Ellen Ricketts died at 20 Holyrood Close, Ipswich on 13 November 1980.
