PRENTICE, William Robert
William Robert Prentice was born at Ipswich on 17 September 1878, third son of Henry Prentice (26 December 1842-10 January 1924), a printer's reader, and his wife Sarah Ann née Day (1 October 1840-1915), who married at Ipswich in 1867. William was the brother of Bertha Frances Prentice and in 1881, a 2-year-old, living at 5 High Street, Ipswich with his parents, 39-year-old Henry and 39-year-old Sarah, with eight siblings, Bertha Frances 13, Florence Ann 11, Agnes Caroline 10, Arnold Thomas 9, Ellen Elizabeth 7, Eliza Ann 5, Henry Ernest 4 and new born Percy John, all born at Ipswich, they had another son Stanley Richard born in 1885. In 1891 they were living in Bulwer Road, Ipswich and in 1901 at 27 Berners Street, Ipswich. William married at St John's Church, Ipswich on 4 September 1907, Marion Beatrice Peck (23 December 1881-1958), fourth daughter of Capt. Edward Peck of 'Baynton', Crabbe Street, Ipswich. In 1911, William was a clerk in the tramways department, living at 52 Bristol Road, Ipswich with his 29-year-old wife Marion, who was born at Ipswich. William was a painter of landscapes in oil and watercolour and a member of Ipswich Fine Art Club 1912-1914 and exhibited from 52 Bristol Road, Ipswich in 1911, an oil 'Blackhall Caves, West Hartlepool' and a watercolour 'Still Life Group' and from 'Boynton', Crabbe Street, Ipswich in 1912, an oil 'Flower Study' and watercolours 'Blackhall Rocks, Castle Eden' and 'Fire Reflections', in 1913 two oils 'Gathering Clouds, Durham Coast' and 'Fruit Study'. In 1939, a commercial clerk, living at 104 Ranelagh Road, Felixstowe, Suffolk with his wife Marion. William Robert Prentice died in the Lothingland district of Suffolk in 1962.
