POOLEY, Annie Violet

1871 - 1924

Annie Violet Pooley was born at Stonham Aspal Rectory, Suffolk on 20 February 1871 and baptised at Stonham Aspal Blessed Virgin Mary Church on 21 April 1871, third child of Revd John George Pooley (22 May 1836-29 December 1901) and his wife Caroline Agnes Turner (25 December 1843-5 November 1925), third daughter of Maj. Gen. Henry Blois Turner of Holton Hall, Suffolk, who married Holton St Peter Church on 15 January 1867, Annie was a sister-in-law to Dulcibella Brooke. Annie studied at Ipswich School of Science & Art, passing her examinations in 1895. A painter in oil of landscapes, figures and animals and a member of the Ipswich Fine Art Club 1897-1898 and exhibited from Stonham Aspal Vicarage in 1895 'Felixstowe Donkeys' and 'Buff', in 1896 'Sketch of an Old Woman, Holland' and 'Sketches of Cottages at Hilversum, Holland' and in 1897 an oil 'Aspal Hall' exhibiting some fifteen works 1895-1898. In 1901 she was still living at Stonham Aspal Rectory but Annie Violet Pooley died at St Martin, London in 1924, aged 53, she was unmarried.
