PALMER, Thomas
Thomas Palmer was born at Side Gate Parish of Liddington, Wiltshire on 10 February 1845 and baptised on 18 February 1845, son of Thomas Palmer, a labourer later an innkeeper, and his wife Mary Ann née Hawkins, who married at Swindon in 1842. In 1861, Thomas was a 16-year-old, living at Westcott Place, Swindon with his parents, 62-year-old Thomas and 48-year-old Mary Ann. Thomas married at Swindon in 1869, Sarah Ellen Spreadbury and in 1871, Thomas was a professor of music, living at 31 Belle View Road, Highworth, Swindon with his 22-year-old wife Sarah. Thomas was organist at All Saints, Londonderry 1873, Alton Parish Church 1876, Omagh Parish Church 1877. He then studied at New College, Oxford obtaining a B. Music and in 1880 came to Ipswich as organist at St Matthew's church. In 1881, a 36-year-old organist, professor music and a Bachelor of Music, living at Ladbroke Villa, St Matthew's, Ipswich with his 33 year old wife Sarah, their five children, Thomas 9, who was born in Wiltshire, Eleanor 7 and William 6, who were both born at Londonderry, Annie 4, who was born in Hampshire and Alice 2 who was born in Ireland, living together with his 69-year-old mother Mary Ann and his 60-year-old mother-in-law Eliza. In 1911, a professor of music and organist at St Matthew's Church, living at 48 Berners Street, Ipswich with his wife and daughter Annie Elizabeth. A member of the Ipswich Fine Art Club 1909-1912 and exhibited from 41 Berners Street, Ipswich in 1909, two watercolours 'A View of the Gipping' and 'Evening on the Orwell' which are his only exhibits. His wife died at 48 Berners Street, Ipswich on 15 April 1915, and Thomas Palmer died in 1922.
