DALLY, Kate Marian

1867 - 1949

Kate Marian Dally was born at St John's Wood, Hampstead, London in 1867 and baptised on 13 August 1868, daughter of John Dally (1828-1892), a French merchant & manufacturer, and his wife Sarah Ann née Benham (1841-1876), who married at Islington, London in 1857. In 1871, Kate was a 3-year-old, living at Belton Road, Hampstead with her parents, 42-year-old John and 31-year-old Sarah Ann, with six siblings, Emma Sarah 11, Edwin Bertram 8, Louisa 6, Arthur Thomas 5, John Frederick 1 and newly born Julia Susannah. Her mother died in 1876 when the family moved to Eaton Villa, 4 High Road, Loughton, Essex, where her father died in 1892. In 1901, Kate was a 33-year-old art teacher, living with her 38-year-old brother Edwin Bertram, at 31 Pembroke Road, Ilford, Essex and was still there in 1911. In 1932 she exhibited at the Ipswich Art Club from 59 Windsor Road, Ipswich, where she had lived for many years, an oil 'Bramford', in 1935 'Ancient Building, Campsea Ash', and in 1937 another oil 'A Middlesex Village'. Kate Marian Dally was of 59 Windsor Road, Ipswich when she died at Walnuttree Hospital, Sudbury, Suffolk on 20 February 1949, aged 81, she was unmarried.
