Maria Patricia Fletcher was born and raised in Suffolk. Working in Suffolk, creating vibrant still live paintings that celebrate the uplifting presence of flowers. Inspired by the Scottish Colourists, she brings a contemporary energy to the genre, pairing traditional blooms with bold ceramics, textiles, and pattern-rich surfaces to create works full of joy, colour, and movement. Alongside her painting practice, Fletcher is a lecturer in Graphic Design, and this instinct for composition is evident in her work. Her confident use of colour and pattern balances exuberance with clarity, producing paintings that feel both playful and assured. She has exhibited at Air Contemporary, 4 Ham Yard, London, W1D 7DT; Affordable Art Fair; London Art Fair; Thrive at Felixstowe and elsewhere. Her daughter Lia Victoria (2004-) is also an artist and Maria and Lia, began their painting collaboration in lockdown, and have since created many bold and beautiful florals. Their style informally captures the shapes and feelings of florals in bloom, with a strong use of colour but they also work separately and come together to review their work.
