BAKER, Mary Ann
Mary Ann Baker was born at Euston Square, St Pancras, London on 7 November 1859, eldest child of Frederick James Baker (1834-1895), pianoforte key maker, and his wife Mary Ann née Mayle, who married at All Souls, Marylebone on 23 June 1856. In 1871, Mary Ann was a 12-year-old, living at College Place, St Pancras with her parents, 36-year-old Frederick and 31-year-old Mary with three sibling brothers including 10-year-old Frederick William (1861-1936). In 1881 Mary was boarding in Ipswich, with her parents with her now four brothers living at 68 Wrothham Road, St Pancras, when her younger brother, 19-year-old Frederick, was described as an artist. Mary Ann was of 17 Lower Brook Street, Ipswich when she exhibited at the Ipswich Fine Art Club in 1882, 'Mount St Michael, Cornwall' and is noted in the 1883 catalogue of 17 Lower Brook Street, but no exhibits are indexed but in 1884 she exhibited from 25 Lower Brook Street, Ipswich another 'Mount St Michael, Cornwall', with two others 'The Steeple Rock, Kynance Cove, Cornwall' and 'The Lion Rock, Kynance Cove, Cornwall' also exhibiting from the same address in 1885 'Ruins of the Old Church, Stanway, near Colchester'. Mary Ann Baker was of 6 Abingdon Cottages, Norwich Road, Whitton, Ipswich when she died at Ipswich Hospital on 13 March 1941, aged 82, she was unmarried.
