Lily Hammond

Lily Hammond was born in Ipswich in 1998 but has spent most of her life in Debenham, Suffolk. Lily studied art at Suffolk One but taking her 'A' levels in science and mathematics. Lily graduated from Middlesex University with a B.A. (hons) in Illustration in 2020. Her practice spans the creative sector from working on a commission for 'Black History Month' for the BBC to artwork created for Ipswich Town’s programme for 'Call Me Ted' and Lily was part of a group of artists who created murals on Ipswich's waterfront as part of an initiative by Suffolk County Council's Covid Continuity Fund for Culture. A large amount of Lily's work focuses on influential women of colour, which she hopes will serve to inspire younger generations. In 2022 Lily left Debenham for a studio at Ipswich since when she has been building her freelance practice, her studio, 'Uwu Studio', takes its name from the Kwale word for 'colourful' in her family's native language of Papua New Guinea, and her studio reflects her values; inclusivity, storytelling, and the power of colour to uplift. Lily's work has been exhibited locally including at Christchurch Mansion at Ipswich and in both Europe and the United States and elsewhere.
