WRIGHT, Alfred
Alfred Wright was born at 14 Bell Lane, Ipswich in 1858, son of William Wright, a colporteur, and his wife Sarah née Giles, who married at Ipswich in 1852 when they were both 30 years of age. Alfred was a 10-year-old when admitted from Trinity School to the British Boys School, Ipswich on 31 January 1868, when his father was described as a blacksmith, living at Freehold Road, Ipswich. In 1881, Alfred was a 22-year-old gardener, living at 11 Charles Street, Ipswich with his 61-year-old widowed mother and two of his five siblings. Alfred exhibited at the Ipswich Fine Art Club in 1882 from Allan Terrace, Beck Street, Ipswich, an oil painting 'On the River' and from 8 Tyler Street, Ipswich in 1885 an oil, 'Cobbold's Maltings, Stowmarket'. In 1891, a 35-year-old unmarried painter & decorator, living at 25 Cobbold Street, Ipswich still with his widowed mother. He married at Ipswich in 1892, Ellen Fairweather (1860-1923) and in 1901, a 43-year-old [house]painter, living at 7 Philip Road, Ipswich with his 41-year-old wife Ellen and their two daughters Clara Mahala [Newby] (16 November 1892-1949) and Rose Ellen [Daldry] (26 May 1896-2 October 1950). Alfred Wright died at Ipswich in 1918, aged 60.
