Rik Saggers

Richard James Saggers was born in Ipswich in 1971, son of Melvyn Saggers and his wife Gillian née Latter. Rik, as he was known, journey into the world of art was shaped by a childhood challenge being diagnosed as colour blind, he struggled to distinguish between various hues, making art classes a daunting experience. This allowed him to focus solely on shading and tones, without the stress of handling colours enabling him to concentrate on refining his techniques. Embracing his unique circumstances, he honed his skills through practice and perseverance and his mastery over graphite art became a distinguishing feature of his work. A full-time artist based in Ipswich he sought refuge in the trusty pencil as his chosen medium and over the course of many years, has exhibited his artwork across the UK. His creations have found homes in private collections worldwide including Australia, the USA, and in Europe. His reputation as an accomplished artist continues to grow, earning him recognition and appreciation from art enthusiasts across the globe. Rik found a deep purpose for his artistic endeavours when the tragic story of Cecil the Lion, senselessly slain and in response, Rik created his signature series of drawings 'Their Fragile World'.
