Chris Bennett

Christopher J Bennett was born at Hammersmith London in 1957, son of Edwin Bennett andd his wife Marie W née Waddingham, who married at Ealing in 1956. Chris studied at the Slade School of Fine Art in the early ‘80s under Euan Uglow (10 March 1932–1 August 2000), Jeffery Camp and Philip Sutton (20 October 1928-) and Chris contributed a chapter in ‘The Uglow Papers’ by Andrew Lambirth, describing his time as a student at the Slade under artist, Euan Uglow. As a portrait painter, his painting of Sir William Hawthorne, who designed the first jet engine with Sir Frank Whittle, now hangs in the collection of Churchill College, Cambridge. He has exhibited at the Royal Academy and with the Royal Institute of Oil Painters at the Mall Galleries, London and sells in prestigious galleries around the UK. In 2004 he signed a publishing contract with DeMontfort Fine Art, a company that licenses selected works in the UK, Japan and the USA. Chris lives in Suffolk and had a solo exhibition entitled ‘The Girl in the Moon’ at the Mill Tye Gallery and Arts Centre, Mill Tye, Great Cornard, Sudbury.
