ALPE, Stephen
Stephen Alpe was born in 1959 and he lived in Bulawayo in Zimbabwe. A self-taught artist he began working with watercolor in 1986 and being a lover of wildlife especially birds and in Zimbabwe, birds are everywhere, and you need to be able to show the real character of each species and admired and became inspired by such artists as David Morrison Reid Henry (1919–1977) and Chlöe Talbot-Kelly (1927-2023). On moving to the UK in 2007 he began to explore abstract and modern art from artists such as Wassily Wassilyevich Kandinsky[a] (1866–1944) and Joan Miró (1893–1983). He now paints original work in watercolour, which is both intriguing and eye catching, filled with cryptic clues, address contemporary issues and often challenge the viewers, straying from conventional decor preferences. His studio is in Bury St Edmund's, Suffolk.
