KAY, Alan
Alan Menzies Kay was born in Kirkcaldy in Fife on 1 June 1955, son of William Neil Kay (30 May 1921-) and his wife Agnes Elma née Menzies (31 October 1923-3 October 2009), who married at Dundee on 11 July 1951. Alan was brought up in Aberdeen and has been drawing and painting since an early age. He studied at Aberdeen University for his B.Sc. and at the University Centre West Anglia for his master's. After university he worked abroad for many years in community development and with social and community enterprises. Alan has always been interested in painting, drawing and sculpture and has followed various courses with the Open College of the Arts; the continuing education programme at Edinburgh College of Art and part-time study at Leith School of Art and with art tutors. Alan Kay is an artist who specialises in landscapes and structural paintings and was based in Edinburgh with a studio at St Margaret's House, artist studios and workspaces at 151 London Road, Edinburgh. He has exhibited widely in Scotland and the North of England and in February 2020 he moved south and now has his studio at Stonehouse Lodge, Aldringham, near Leiston, Suffolk where he exhibited with Suffolk Open Studios.
