PRIDEAUX-BRUNE, Gertrude Rose
Gertrude Rose Prideaux-Brune was born in Padstow, Cornwall on 29 October 1855 and baptised on 24 November 1855, one of the several children of Charles Glynn Prideaux-Brune (2 April 1821-16 October 1907), a magistrate, and his wife Ellen Jane Carew (17 December 1824-12 September 1902). Her work was exhibited at the London Salon, The Royal Academy, Royal Society of British Artists, Royal Institute of Oil Painters, and at Liverpool's Walker Art Gallery. Not strictly a Suffolk artist but she often visited her sister Mildred Maria Prideaux-Brune (1 November 1866-19 September 1945) at her home at The Grange, The Street, Elmswell, Suffolk from where she exhibited at the [[Bury St Edmund's [and West Suffolk] Fine Art Society,4385]] in 1887 'After the Storm'. Mildred married at St Peter's Eaton Square, London on 17 April 1890 Harvey (Alexander) Alexander (3 June 1859-13 March 1936). Her paintings were published in 'The Yellow Book' in 1895 and 1896. In 1897 she was awarded the RNLI's Silver Medal for Gallantry for her part in a rescue off the coast of Padstow. Gertrude Rose Prideaux-Brune died in Sunbury-on-Thames on 20 April 1945 she was unmarried.
The catalogue of the Bury St Edmund's Fine Art Society exhibition only states Miss Prideaux-Brune and could be Mildred Maria Prideaux-Brune (1 November 1866-19 September 1945) or Isolda Blanche Prideaux-Brune later Liddell (15 March 1865-26 March 1938)) who was living at The Grange, The Street, Elmswell, Suffolk in 1891 but these other sisters have no record as being artists.
