KNIGHT, Joan
As Joan Mary Tarver she was born at 154 Scalpcliff Road, Burton upon Trent, Staffordshire on 2 August 1914, daughter of Alfred George Tarver (3 October 1881-25 February 1962), proprietor of George Tarver & Son Ltd., tailors of Station Street, Burton and his wife Isobelle née Johnson (5 December 1883-27 November 1966), who married at Burton upon Trent in 1907 and in 1939 were living at The Knoll, Newton Road, Repton, Derbyshire. Joan married at St Wystan's Church, Repton, Derbyshire on 10 January 1940, John William Henry Knight (27 July 1916-24 December 2007), an assistant solicitor to Burton Corporation, only son of Henry Knight of Burley, Hampshire and they had two sons Christopher James (1942-) and Jeremy Alfred Henry (1946-), both born at Burton. They later moved to Bury St Edmund's where her husband, a former Bury mayor and a well-known Rotarian, worked for the Mildenhall Internal Drainage Board for some 40 years, and awarded an OBE in 1976 also being awarded the Freedom of Bury in 1991. Joan painted in her spare time and was a member of the Bury St Edmund's Art Society and a watercolour painting has a label 'Joan Knight, 162 Westley Road, Bury St Edmund's, Suffolk' but they later moved to Honey Hill, Bury St Edmund's. Joan Mary Knight died at Bury St Edmund's on 17 January 2009.
