Robin Warnes

Robin Raymond Warnes, was born at Ipswich on 13 March 1952, his mother's maiden name was Read and he paints under the name of Robin Warnes. Robin studied at the Ipswich School of Art 1972-1974, Canterbury College of Art 1974-1977, gaining an honours degree, and did a post-graduate course in painting and drawing at the Royal Academy Schools 1977-1980, being awarded a number of prizes including The Turner Gold Medal for Landscape Painting in Oil and in 1981, the David Murray Studentship for Landscape Painting. Robin has been lecturing and was artist in residence at Univeristy Campus Suffolk, and teaching on Foundation courses at Ipswich School of Art and the Open College of Arts, as well working in adult and private tuition and is a module leader in painting on the BA (Hons) Art and Design course at University Campus, Suffolk. Robin has been a professional painter since 1980, with focus on the use of colour, form and texture and the illusion of pictorial space, with his work falling between the figurative and the abstract, but also continues to investigate drawing and has produced 3D work in the form of constructions and boxes using found objects. Elected a member of the Pastel Society in 2013, being part of the Council since 2015, and has been exhibiting at the Mall Galleries since 2011. He is also a member of The Royal Academy Schools Alumni and exhibits as part of the regional group in East Anglia. His solo exhibitions include Chappel Galleries, Essex; John Russell Gallery Ipswich; Octagon Gallery, High Street Ipswich; Wolsey Art Gallery Ipswich; Waterfront Gallery U.C.S Campus Ipswich and elsewhere. His mixed shows include Royal Academy Summer Exhibition from 1981; The Pastel Society, Mall Galleries London; Ipswich Arts Society Annual Exhibitions; Colchester Arts Society, The Minories, Colchester; Invited Suffolk Artists Exhibition, Hertfordshire; Fitzroy Modern Art, Norwich and elsewhere. He married at Ipswich in 1974, Vanessa May, and they had two sons and a daughter and lived at 77 Rosehill Road, Ipswich.
