WOOLNER, Henry
Henry Woolner was born in London in 1837 and baptised at St Pancras on 12 August 1838, son of Thomas Woolner (1805-24 December 1868), a schoolteacher who was born in Hull, and his second wife Sarah née Stone (1807-1891), who died at Otley, Suffolk on 20 September 1891, aged 84. In 1841 they were living at Mary Street, St Pancras and in 1851 were still living at Mary Street, with 45 year old Thomas now a letter carrier for the G.P.O., with 43 year old Sarah, who was born at Thames Ditton, and Thomas's children Thomas Woolner 25, a sculptor, Sophia 23, both born at Hadleigh, Suffolk, Henry 13, Clive 11, Sarah 8, Mary Ann 6, Alfred 3 and Charlotte S. 1, all born at St Pancras and by 1861 they had moved to 27 Rutland Street, St Pancras. By 1871 Henry was a 33 year drawing master a School of Science & Art living at Hodge Bower, Madeley, Shropshire with his sister Charlotte and Henry was principal of Stoke School of Art in the 1870s. Henry Woolner of Hartshill, Stoke-on-Trent, married at St Mary's Church, Westerfield near Ipswich on 8 August 1877, Catherine Esther Cooper, (1850-1929) only surviving child of the late John Cooper, a maltster, of Witnesham near Ipswich and his wife Emma née Cutting and by 1881 Henry, now a landowner, examiner to the science and art department and a captain of auxiliary artillery, was living at Hintlesham, near Ipswich with his wife Catherine and three children Alfred Cooper 2, Winifred 1, both born at Etruria, and newly born Gwendolen (1880-1891) who was born at Hintlesham. In 1901 Henry was a 62-year-old Inspector for the Board of Education living at Stanley House, London Road, St Mary Stoke, Ipswich with his 50-year-old wife Catherine Esther with three children Alfred Cooper 22, a student at Trinity College, Oxford, Harold Sterling 19, who was born at Hintlesham, and Enid Catherine 7, who was born at Ipswich, Winifred married W. Flindell Bird. Henry Woolner died at Ipswich in 1902, aged 64. His wife died at Sunnyside Road, Epping in 1929.
