JOHN WHIBLEY GALLERY
The John Whibley Gallery was originally at 60 George Street off Baker Street in London's Marylebone and the first exhibition noted was in February 1960 of the works of Ali Imam (1924-2002) and Sydney Arrobus (1901-1980) and the John Whibley Gallery were still at George Street in March 1967 with a solo exhibition of the works of Mary Fox (1922-2005). By July 1968 they had moved to the more prestigious 22 Cork Street with an exhibition of the works of Alfred Daniels (1924-2015). The last exhibition noted was of the works of the American artist Sean Morrissey in February 1973 but during its time represented artists not only from the UK but as far afield as South Africa and Malaysia. These include Kenneth William Fernée (1926-1983), Ken Howard (1932-2022), Tom McGuinness (1926-2006), Roy Rasmussen (1919-2014), sculptor James William Archibald Cubitt (1914-1983) and Suffolk artists John Alfred Green and Richard Thomas Parsons.
Note: there is a Whibleys the Jewellers an independent family business, with origins in Gracechurch Street London in 1894. In 2025 it had branches at Guildford, Horsham, Richmond and Worthing and in 2025 its Art Gallery was showing the marine works of Francis Smitheman (1927-2016), vibrant sweets of Angela Lyons through to local watercolour landscapes by Andrew Dandridge (1953-) with paintings to suit all tastes and budgets.
