MEDNICK, Annabel

1959 - ?

Annabel B Mednick is a figurative artist, based in Ipswich, Suffolk, where she paints expressive paintings and portraits full of nuances of light, colour, and atmosphere in oil on canvas. Annabel's varied career has involved work in theatre, film, and television as well as solo and collaborative work in performance, video and film projects. She is best known for her large, expressive paintings of the figure in an interior, although over the years she has explored many subjects. She also has considerable experience as an art instructor, working in schools and colleges as well as non-educational settings and her weekly classes are held in The Studio, 82 Westholme Road, Ipswich. Her students use the time to leave the stress and tension of life outside the studio and immerse themselves in the moment, to contemplate the stillness of a stone, a pot, compare their qualities, size, and shape, to fall in love with the gentle form of a petal; recreate the stunning vistas of another landscape. Her portrait of Bill Philby won the prize at the National Portrait Gallery BP Portrait Awards. She exhibits widely including at Clécy in the Calvados department in Normandy and with Frame Workshop & Gallery, Ipswich.
