EMOTIONIST GROUP
Emotionist Group was founded around 1927 by artist Ronald Ossory Dunlop and was a somewhat obscure society of some thirty earnest young persons who express their 'emotionism' in painting, writing, and music. The Society published its own magazine 'Emotionism' only two editions of which are known to exist and held its first exhibition at the Hurricane Lamp Gallery in Cheyne Walk, Chelsea in January 1928 when one of the principal exhibitors was Dunlop's lover, Clifford Hooper Rowe (1904–1989), who went on to help establish the Artists International Association,. Other members of the group included Edith Margaret Emily 'Peggy' Ashcroft (1907-1991) who was a poetry writer before becoming famous as a great stage actress, Jean Shepeard (1904-1989) a well-known actress and artist and a young Victor Burr (1908-1993) an assistant of Dunlop other members included Robert Heselden. Occasional visitors included George Bernard Shaw, Sybil Thorndike and Aldous Huxley.
