CLARIDGE GALLERY
Claridge Gallery, 52 Brook Street, Bond Street, London, opposite Claridge's Hotel, was established in 1925 'intended to give young artists a chance to show their works without the devastating charges and commissions of the modern West End galleries' but their opening exhibition in July 1925 was a 'memorial of the great John (Singer) Sargent (1856-1925). It is last noted in 1931 with a one-man exhibition of the works of Philip Steegman (1903-1952). Suffolk artists who exhibited at the Claridge Gallery include John Arthur Dodgson, Frances Hodgkins and Peggy Somerville.
