COLCHESTER ART CLUB

1894 - 1907

The Colchester Art Club held their first annual exhibition at The Public Hall, High Street, Colchester on 8-12 May 1894, when the hon. secs. were Charles E. Benham, a newspaper proprietor, and William Gill, a photographer and artist, the exhibition was opened by the Mayor, Henry Goody. One of the founder members was Charles Edward Baskett and the exhibition included paintings, photographs, needlework, carving and other artwork and lantern lectures were available. The exhibitions are noticed annually until 1900 and the last noted was held at the Albert School of Art on 3-4 January 1907.
