HILLIARD SOCIETY
The Hilliard Society of Miniaturists was founded by miniature artist Rosalind Pierson and gallery owner Sue Burton. The inaugural exhibition was held at the Burwood Gallery, Wells, Somerset in May 1982 and in 2012 the Society celebrated its 30th Anniversary. The Hilliard Society at 7 Hampton View, Bath was formed with the idea of offering an alternative for the rest of the country and now boasts an international membership of around three hundred. Based in the Somerset/Devon area this society is named in memory of Exeter born Nicholas Hilliard (1547-1619), the great Elizabethan miniaturist. The Hilliard Society of Miniature Artists is also a founding member of the World Federation of Miniaturists. Suffolk artist exhibitors include Evangeline Mary Lambart Dickson and Jane Hyde Fraser.
