ROYAL AMATEUR ART SOCIETY
The Royal Amateur Art Society held exhibitions in London circa 1898-1939, the first exhibition noted was opened by the Princess of Wales at 1 Belgrave Square, London on 11 May 1898 and the first catalogue noted was for an Art Loan Collection exhibition held at 7 Chesterfield Gardens, London 20-23 March 1900 the next 26-29 March 1901 another was held at Moncorvo House, London, March 5-8, 1904. Queen Mary was the president. Sanction was granted to form at 'Art Union' was granted 1907/12. An early exhibitor was Marion Saumarez other exhibitors included Marie-Louise Roosevelt Butterfield (1889–1984) and the 1904 included the Marchioness of Granby sent some of her refined pencil studies of heads, and there were contributions, for the same purpose, by the Duchess of Buckingham, the Duchess of Somerset, Lady Bruce, Miss Clogstoun, Miss Muriel Hunt, Miss Whelpton, Miss Ethel Nisbet, Mrs. Marrable, Mrs. Travers, Miss Whyley, Miss Ackland-Wood, Mr. J. Heathcote, Mr. C. Heathcote, Miss Wynne, Miss Fowler, Colonel Goff, Colonel Duthie, Mr. Archer Cook, Mr. Wallace Rimington, Mr. James Powell, and Mr. Sydney Glover.. The last noted exhibition was at 45 Pont Street, London SW in March 1939.
