LANTERN GALLERY
The Parish Lantern shop and tea-room sits beside the Village Green in the coastal village of Walberswick, Suffolk. The building was originally a merchant's house, then the village school, and became a shop after the First World War. In the 1920s it was an outlet for 'The Walberswick Peasant Pottery Company' and during the Second World War became a NAAFI for the armed forces. On the peace it returned to retail and, with help from family and staff, has now been run by Robin and Liz McLean for over twenty years. The shop sells a wide range of excellent quality crafts, cards, clothes, books, toys, jewellery, and gifts, as well as essential beach and crabbing gear. The tea-room is much loved for its delicious home-made cakes, cream teas, and pizzas and the Lantern Gallery holds regular exhibitions of works. Suffolk artists who have exhibited with the Lantern Gallery include Martin Richard Laurance.
