SUTTON, Gordon
Rufus Gordon Sutton was born at Clacton-on-Sea, Essex on 28 January 1910, son of Sidney Sutton, a tea commercial traveller, and his wife Jane Sarah Elizabeth née Hill (1870-18 February 1949), who married at Southwark, London in 1902. In 1911, Gordon, as he was known, was a 1-year-old, living at 9 Meredith Road, Clacton with his parents, 34-year-old Sidney and 41-year-old Jane, with two siblings, Sidney 7, born East Finchley, London and Kathleen 4, born Belfast, N. Ireland. Gordon married at Lowestoft, Suffolk in 1937, Sallie Doreen Fowler (30 October 1916-29 March 2008) and they had a daughter Ann, born in 1938. In 1939, an art master at a secondary school in Lowestoft, living with his wife and two others, at 53 Marlborough Road, Lowestoft. Gordon exhibited at the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours and the Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour 1931-1940 from 14 Kirkley Cliff, Lowestoft. Rufus Gordon Sutton died at Oxford on 15 September 1998.
