LEICESTER SOCIETY OF ARTISTS

1881 - ?

Leicester Society of Artists (LSA) was founded in 1881. A Society of artists living, working or studying in Leicestershire and Rutland, currently with around 150 members, all practising visual artists, who represent many perspectives on art. The Society is artist-led, not receiving outside funding, relying on support of members and exhibition sponsors. In their annual exhibitions, some art is being shown for the first time in Leicestershire and they hold occasional themed exhibitions with elected members on the LSA Council creating their themes and installing their shows. Every year, three Council members are replaced so they benefit continuously from both experience and latest ideas. They welcome new members, visual artists living working or studying in Leicestershire or Rutland or having a strong connection to the area. Suffolk artist members include Walter Brand, Hugh Collinson and George Moore Henton.
