DOWNS, Thomas Henry
Thomas Henry Downs was born at North Street, Hackney, London on 29 March 1892, son of William Downs, a wine cellarman, and his wife Esther née Cohen, who married at Shoreditch, London in 1873. In 1901, Thomas was a 9-year-old, living at 42 Lauriston Road, Hackney with his parents, 52-year-old William and 48-year-old Esther and his four siblings, Elizabeth Miriam 23, Esther E. 19, Bertha S. 14 and Herbert Leslie 11, all born in London and by 1911 was a 19-year-old artist living with the family at 111 Mildenhall Road, Lower Clapton, London. He married at Hackney in 1919, Minnie May Johnson (4 January 1892-20 February 1957) and in 1921 they lived at 14 Bentham Road, Hackney and around 1925 moving to 8 Wick Drive, Wickford, Essex. A member of the Amalgamated Society of Lithographic Artists Designers Engravers & Process Workers, and a member of the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours. In 1939 an engraver and artist living at 121 Marguerite Drive, Leigh-On-Sea, Essex with his wife Minnie. Thomas Henry Downs moved to Lowestoft, Suffolk where he died in 1972.
