BARKER, John 1941-
John Robert Barker was born in London in 1941 and spent many years in France creating wines as a sideline to painting and now lives near to Orford in Suffolk. An abstract artist in acrylics who has spent his painting life in perfecting his method. John applies paint freely on canvas or board, often beginning with a memory of a landscape that suggests forms and colours to his mind’s eye. He plays with the paint until his desired effect is created. There are clear references to Rothko, Gorky and Chagall throughout his work, but in his colour and method there is a unique style. Artist in Residence at Orford Ness 2009, a member of the Stone Eye Group of artists. He lives at Pettistree near Woodbridge and had a studio at Butley Mills Studios.
