SALMON, William Henry

1822 - 1854

Born at Bury St Edmund’s, Suffolk on 28 December 1822 and baptised at St James’s church, Bury St Edmund’s on 25 January 1823, son of William Salmon, a tailor, and his wife Ann née Goldsmith. In 1841, an 18 year old printer living at Hatter Street, Bury St Edmund’s with his parents, 40 year old William and 40 year old Ann and his brother George Robert Salmon (1835-1854). The 'Bury and Norwich Post' of 8 March 1854 ‘On the 3rd inst., aged 31, having only three days before lost his only child, aged one month, Mr. W. H. Salmon, of Hatter-street, in this town. He was originally a printer, having been apprenticed in the office of this paper; but exhibiting considerable talent as a draughtsman, was persuaded by his friends and induced by delicate health to pursue the art as a profession, and had attained to so much excellence, more especially in portrait painting, as to promise a realisation of the brightest hopes of his friends. His death will be deeply lamented by all who knew him.'
