Amanda Given was born in Ireland and spent her childhood travelling from place to place, based in various places for short periods in Southwest England and Northern Ireland before her family emigrated to Tasmania when she was a teenager. She studied English, speech, and drama at university, working as a teacher and social worker. Business management roles in large organisations led to posts in universities, property development and counselling organisations. She has lived in Australia from where she retired and in 2014 came to live by the sea at Felixstowe, Suffolk where she is a writer, her early short stories were published in magazines and anthologies. Amanda’s first novel was written in Suffolk 'Making Old Bones' was published in 2020 and its sequel 'For the Time Being' in 2023. Amanda is also an artist, working in watercolour, ink, gouache or oils and an active Member of the Felixstowe Art Group, with the landscapes, seascapes, and skyscapes of Suffolk among the subjects of her paintings she also works on portraits of people and animals also a member of the Ipswich Arts Association.
