Margaret Booth was born at Ipswich on 23 December 1923, daughter of Daniel Booth (23 March 1894-27 January 1982), an officer in H.M. Customs, and his wife Dorothy Winifred née Cubitt (7 January 1899-19 January 1997), who married at Ipswich in 1919 and in 1939 were living at 58 Melbourne Road, Ipswich with their two children, Margaret and her elder brother John Leslie Samuel Booth (27 February 1921-). Margaret Betts, née Booth, was an Ipswich girl who was recruited to join the Wrens at Bletchley Park during the Second World War. Margaret was recruited to work at Bletchley Park in 1942 at the age of 19 and started working at Bletchley Park, near Milton Keynes in Buckinghamshire, in the summer of 1943 and worked at the country house-turned-military HQ until Victory over Japan (VJ) Day in 1945. Margaret Betts lived most of her life in Ipswich and died in a Nursing Home in Minehead, Somerset on 26 August 2023, aged 99. She was married and had five children.
