SZAYBO, Jilly

1945 - 2022

As Jill Josephine Weber she was born at Lambeth, London on 24 June 1945. She studied at the Slade School of Fine Art 1963-1967 where one of her tutors was the Royal Academician Anthony Gross (19 March 1905–8 September 1984), Jill graduated with a B.A. (hons) painting and etching. She married at Fulham, London in 1968, Polish artist Roslaw M Von Szaybo (13 August 1933-21 May 2019) and she worked as Jilly Szaybo. Her work began with drawing landscapes, townscapes, natural forms and still life which were her main subjects and have very patterned, circular motifs painted on small canvases. She also worked on paper of a similar theme, and colourful still life. An art specialist, painter and art tutor and a former member of the Harleston and Waveney Art Trail with studios in Kingston-upon-Thames and at 6 Outney Road, Bungay in Suffolk. Having separated from Roslaw Szaybo, Jilly married at Westminster, London in 1991 Nicholas John Usherwood (June 1943-). Jil Josephine Usherwood died at Bungay on 21 May 2022.
