ROBERTS, Beaver

1890 - 1971

Arthur Beaver Llewelyn-Roberts was born on 16 December 1890, son of Arthur Llewelyn Wynne Roberts (1855-17 October 1919), a secretary to the Royal Literary Fund, and his wife Eleanor Maude née Wilton (21 June 1864-17 June 1957), eldest daughter of Dr. J. Wilton, who married at St Nicholas Church, Sutton, Surrey on 4 August 1887. Young Arthur's grandfather was Beaver Roberts of Wales, hence his second name. Arthur was educated at Bedalas School, Steep, Petersfield, Hampshire. In 1911, a 20-year-old architect, living at 3 Tregunter Road, Kensington, London with his parents, 55-year-old Arthur Llewelyn and 46-year-old Eleanor Maud, with one of his two siblings, Gwynedd Llewelyn Roberts Gwynedd Llewelyn Buchan his other sibling was Wilton Llewellyn (13 June 1888-24 January 1977). A lieutenant in the Dorsetshire Regiment 1914-1918 and again 1940. Of Bury Studio, Sydney Street, SW London, when he married at Balcombe Parish Church, Haywards Heath on 21 May 1921, Rosamond Haworth-Booth (7 April 1898-26 January 1976) of the Mill House, Balcombe but they divorced in 1926 when Arthur married secondly at Kensington, Elinor Nancy Pease (25 January 1902-) of 18b Elvaston Place, Kensington. In 1939 they were living at Wigley Bush Lane, South Weald, Brentwood, Essex. From 1923, as A. B. Llewelyn Roberts, he exhibited at the Royal Academy and later as Beaver Roberts he again exhibited at the Academy from Sproughton, Ipswich. In 1947, when still of Sproughton Manor, Arthur and Elinor with their two sons Peter 16 and Michael 9, emigrated to Kenya. Arthur Beaver Llewelyn-Roberts died on 26 April 1971.
