Lorette Roberts

As Lorette E. Wilson she was born in Bath, Somerset and cannot remember a time when she didn’t paint, make cards or author books but only attended a five day watercolour workshop run by The Chelsea Physic Garden and apart from that course, Lorette has had no formal art training. Lorette married in Blyth, Suffolk in 1967, William O. W. Roberts and works under the name of Lorette Roberts. She did follow a different career path in early adult life but she has travelled and lived abroad for many years and developed her skills of sketching and researching local customs and curiosities and also edited and illustrated a monthly ‘site magazine’ whilst living in construction villages in South Africa and Saudi Arabia. Whilst in Hong Kong she continued to sketch and paint and those sketches and paintings were put together to make a sketchbook 'Sights & Secrets Sketches and Paintings of Hong Kong' was published which was followed by several more sketchbooks of the Far East. Sketchbooks led to commissions from private individuals, charities and hotels and Lorette provided the sketches and drawings for the Peninsula Hotel in their book entitled 'Our Hong Kong. Lorette has exhibited widely including in Hong Kong at at Karen Webber Gallery; Foreign Correspondents Club; Li Wing Tong Gallery; Picture This Gallery; The Nesbitt Centre and elsewhere also at Bridge House, Hertfordshire and at Trust Farm, Dennington, Suffolk. Lorette has for many years run workshops firstly in UK, followed by in Hong Kong but is now back in her Suffolk Studio at Dennington.
