Having retired from scientific research he was able to devote much of his time to sailing his auxiliary sloop 'Etosha' which formed the basis for many of his paintings. He exhibited at Tudor Galleries, Norwich and elsewhere. He married at Downham Market, Norfolk in 1946, Doris May Bedingfield (born 1924).
