ROBINSON, Shelley
Shelley Louise Robinson was born in Suffolk, daughter of John Robinson. As a teenager she sailed Aldeburgh Lapwing racing dinghies on the River Alde then, at the age of 18, she took to the sea and after hitch-hiking round Europe, she took a job crewing a yacht bound for the Caribbean and there she stayed for the next 10 years. From her base in Antigua, she took on various roles, sometimes a deck-hand, sometimes a stewardess, voyaging throughout the Caribbean. Returning to Suffolk, Shelley took up crewing Dragon boats on the Alde, sometimes with her father, and she competed in the Opens in Holland, France and Ireland, the boat twice winning second place in the Edinburgh Cup. Shelley came to painting late in her life and is a self-taught by attending local evening classes, she works in acrylics and paints portraits of animals and people, flowers, and objects and, having spent many years on the high seas, sailing yachts feature. Semi-retirement and a recently built studio in her garden have given her time and space. An associate member of Suffolk Open Studios from 36 Hall Farm Close, Melton, Woodbridge, Suffolk and exhibits at the Craft House Woodbridge. Shelley also works on commissions.
