SYMIS, Emilia
Emilia Neryce Symis was born in Suffolk in 1998, the daughter of Andrew John Symis (May 1965-). Emelia studied at the Norwich University of the Arts 2016-2019 graduating with a first-class B.A. (hons) degree in Fine Art. Since graduation she has won the Bishops Art Prize at Norwich and was a finalist in the John Ruskin Prize in the same year. Emelia is a fine artist based in Suffolk, her art is very colourful and featuring food and flowers with a twist. Initially her work looks beautiful and visually appealing, but upon closer inspection there is usually a factor that changes how the image may be perceived as there is an integral theme to her work in the relationship between beauty and the grotesque. She has exhibited in London, Manchester, Stratford-upon-Avon, including Anteros Arts Foundation, Norwich; Fairhurst Gallery, Norwich; Brick Lane Gallery, London; Truman Brewery, London; Affordable Art Fair, Battersea; The Gallery Holt, Norfolk; Yare Gallery, Great Yarmouth; Babylon Gallery, Ely; Artworks East, Cambridge; Fox Yard Studio, Stowmarket and Bank Arts Centre, Eye.
